Hunger, Homelessness, & Affordable Housing
See our Outreach page for information on our exciting new dedicated outreach partnership with SOS Community Services, serving homeless families throughout Washtenaw County!
We at Northside put our money where hungry people’s mouths are … and then some.
Our members monthly cook and serve meals with at the local Delonis Shelter (homeless shelter for men). Each Winter, we join with our partner in ministry St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church in transporting and hosting overnight for a week 25 homeless men who would ordinarily seek shelter from the cold at Delonis. With St. Aidan's, we also collect and dedicate each month an average of over 100 lbs. of non-perishable food items for the local distribution agency Food Gatherers.
Sometimes, we at Northside stand up the best for the hungry and homeless by what we do sitting down. With St. Aidan’s each Spring, we participate in a nationwide Offering of Letters to our congressional representatives sponsored by the ecumenical non-parisan food policy lobbying organization Bread for the World. Recently, we helped secure a $10,000 denominational grant for a thirty family townhouse construction project nearby cosponsored by Religious Action for Affordable Housing and Avalon Housing
